all colorado ingredients in this one, the yearly changing recipe. its a cool beer, very very tasty, but definitely not a traditional schwarzbier. its way more hoppy, although the fresh hops seems almost under dosed, less pungent and distinctive than they probably ought to be, but still leaps and bounds in front of the style norm. the grain also isnt half as dark as normal, its more of a brown ale really than anything else, lacking that big bigger roasty profile of the traditional schwarz. i dont really miss it though, and think if it was there, the hops might be even more lost. mild chocolate notes, but very dry, with an english type yeast profile thats mild but not flavorless at all. thin in body, almost too thin, and i wish ti had mor substance from both grain and wet hops. it seems like an odd recipe to showcase the hops, as this is decidedly grain driven. cool with the lighter malt in the style, but it doesnt seem right, and it doesnt seem german, and it doesnt seem hoppy enough for a fresh hopped beer. overall i like it though, a little something different, but they could have done more with it i think.
