Notes: Samurai is the perfect beer for your zen garden after battle, or your patio after a long day of work. The addition of rice gives a slightly fruity, crisp, refreshing element to this hazy unfiltered ale, creating a light, easy-going beer suitable for the peaceful warrior. This may be your first Samurai, but it certainly won’t be your last.

LOOK: Pours a slightly hazy pale straw yellow with an impressive all white head that has some solid retention and side glass lace.
AROMA: I get the rice, but with the bottle suggestion not sure I would have identified it as such. Hinto of some lemon rind, but not a lot else in the aroma department.
TASTE: Light, crisp, refreshing some lemon zest. Easy drinking.
Dry and mildly bitter at the finish.

From notes 12/16/11: Pours an opaque straw yellow producing a huge, fluffy, loose, white head which leaves nice rings of lace as the beer is consumed. Aroma is mild grain, light fruits (especially banana and lemon), a touch of honey. Taste is similar but slightly sweet with pale malt up front that rapidly gives way to a yeast/hop bite and bitterness that lingers well into the aftertaste. Light, crisp, dry and refreshing!

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 6/19/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of cracker, rice, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of lemon, pear, apple, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt/rice and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, rice, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of lemon, pear, apple, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, rice, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, lemon, pear, apple, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt/rice and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a very good American blonde ale. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt/rice and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Great balance of clean pils malt/rice and earthy hops; with some restrained fruity yeast complexity. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Smell: Hints of rice, hops, a bit bready, some citrus notes, floral.

Taste: Grains, bread dough, very light but refreshing, with a slightly (pleasantly) bitter aftertaste.

Feel: Crisp finish. Dry mouthfeel after swallowing, normal carbonation,

Overall: Very drinkable beer, nothing to write home about but not offensive by any means.

Look: It pours light yellow, not quite clear with a large white head. Head retention is moderate.

Smell: It has a heavy rice aroma with some sweet grainy malt. Very low non distinct malt aroma.

Taste: It is heavy is rice as far as taste goes with some barley in the background. The hops flavors are hard to pick up as the rice dominates the flavor. There is a bit of low fruit in the background.

Feel: It has a light feel with a very low bitter aftertaste.

Overall, this is a beer that tastes like rice with a few background elements.

Pours hazy straw color with a fluffy white head.
The nose hits immediately with sweet rice aromas with a slight earthy hop.
The flavor hits with an adjunct sweetness before finishing with a pronounced bitterness on the finish.
The mouthfeel is light and refreshing.
Overall, I'd compare this to an adjunct lager with a very nicely done hop character. Will I seek it out again? No, but it's honestly not bad.

The beer pours a nice white head that dissipates moderately. The beer itself is a hazy medium gold color that looks really given the style.

The smell and taste are really good especially considering that the beer is purposely made with an adjunct (rice). The rice note is definitely noticeable as it gives a good grain note and mixes well with a fruitiness along with a light but good lemon note. The taste has a slight stronger hop note to it and leans more into the rice than the smell does.

The feel is good. It has a smooth and light body that has an interesting amount of heft to it.

Overall, this is a pretty good beer made with an ingredient that is often cursed by the community. It's an unusual ale but its use of the rice makes it a good beer after a long day.

Hazy straw color. Head lasts throughout. Smell of rice cakes, dough, toasted rice. Honey. Hay. Tastes like a rice cake. Slight sweetness toasty cereal grains. A bit of dryness. Subtle herbalness from the hops. Feel is light yet creamy.

This was outstanding. But the sweetness toward the end made me think I couldn't put these away back to back. But amazing beer. Impressive use of rice.

Pours a clear light orange, fine, soft foam.

Smell is malty with a hint of gasoline and some potato peel.

Taste is fairly malty, with some sidetracks of potato peel and some sort of starch. Soft bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medum, well carbonated.

Overall, a decent beer, but the gasoline and potato peel tones pull it down a bit.

-can. to spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Hazy and brassy colored gold body has a feverish and lively tempo of effervesce. Off white head is firm and creamy, dense, with a one inch rising capping, with a sturdy rate of retention. Single full band lacing adores the vessel afterwards.

S: Soft lemon grind aroma, fresh grains peek through with a crisp nature, light in awareness.

T: The flavor was crisp with lemony tones, wet and juicy with a touch of fruitiness. Dry flowery citrus lemon bite comes on aggressive late on the finish with a lingering quality.

M: Crisp carbonation and sharp bite on the mouthful, light body and dry.

O: A nice rice ale, full of lemony hops and crisp palate from the rice. A perfect lawnmower, backyard quencher on a hot summer day, crisp and bold, light in body and won't fill you up. Refreshing and high repeat factor for continual casual consumption.

Tried on tap at Tajima Ramen House in San Diego. Poured ver light golden yellow with high carbonation. Smells of light citrus and mild hops. Taste was very crisp and smooth with a slight bitteryou happiness that lingers in the back of your mouth. The more you drink the more you get hints of bready malt. Overall a good lighter beer that compares to Japanese fixtures like Asahi or Sapporo. Great for summer and goes well with foods like ramen or sushi.

One of the lightest straw yellow colors you'll ever come across, this was seriously close to Nottenroth it was of such little malt impact in the appearance. Still made over an inch of head though, which is actually impressive.

Aroma was lemon and noble hops.

Taste was refreshing, super light tartness and lemony vibe. Sorachi ace seems to be involved.

Probably a little age on this. Should have checked the age before I purchased it.
Anyway, I generally like this style so I'm hoping for the best.
Soft malt aroma and not much hops. Simple.
Cloudy yellow with big full white head and lots of bubbles rising.
Soft malt flavor with mild drying on the finish. Bittering for balance and a bit at the end, but not much for flavor.
Bigger feel than I"d expect and a nice softness. Balanced carbonation for the size of the head. Nice feel.
Pretty typical Am. blonde without much hop quality. Easy drinker. Soft and uncomplicated.

Enjoyed on tap at the Great Divide brewery and taproom. Pours out one of the lightest colored straw yellows you will ever see. Very nice white head on the top of it, just under the 1" range, pillowy appearance. Mild fruit like aroma probably coming from a lager yeast and having nothing really to get in its way. Miniscule noble hop aroma.

Taste, refreshing, slight country twang to it, enjoyable, especially on this hot day in August that it was sampled. High carbonation, low malt and hops. Appreciable astringency that actually melds with the lemon and rice like qualities. If you've had Stone's 16th anniversary, this tastes like a small beer made from its wort runnings. Really good stuff to convert people who drink a lot of Coors Light. Its better, and a lot more flavorful. Will make you think of sunny days in the grass, with a wedge of lemon. The bitterness might be a little more than some can handle at first, but get beyond that, and you're in light beer heaven, relatively speaking.

Pours a very hazy piss yellow color with a foamy 1 finger snow white head that was full of tight little bubbles and faded pretty quickly, leaving very good foamy lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells of lemon zest, sweet citrus notes, rice, light grains, yeast funk, grass and fruit; considering this is a “rice” beer, it sure smells like a nice sweet hefeweizen.

Tastes sweet and fruity, with lemon, apple, pear, citrus hops, grass, light yeast, faint grains, coriander, bread and flowers or floral hop notes; very fruity, not too sweet and extremely refreshing – this was not what I expected and much better tasting overall.

Mouthfeel is very light, crisp and watery smooth, with mild zesty carbonation that finishes on the dry side with a slight funk residue.

Wow, this beer shocked me and would be a great session beer any time of year. Track it down and check it out; don’t let the rice part fool you, it is not what it seems and is quite tasty.
