On tap the parkway tavern the other day,
While my impression of Skookum is pretty high, I confess I was a bit worried when I saw all the ingredients listed in this IPA (ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, hibiscus, cranberry and blood orange). I'm my experience, IPA's with all those additives are seldom any good, as the adjuncts end up dominating the flavor profile. Not here.
The beer pours a weird (but attractive I guess) rosy orange amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is attractive, and while things like the vanilla, blood orange and ginger are noticeable they don't dominate the aroma profile. Otherwise, I pick up considerable tropical fruit and citrus, with the blood orange and cranberry tending to dominate otherwise. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this very fruit forward, juicy IPA. While there's some sweetness in this beer, it's not over the top, with the bitterness from the hops drying out the beer very nicely. Mouthfeel is fairly light, with the alcohol barely noticeable. The alcohol in this beer is very well integrated into the flavor profile, and so drinkability is quite high
Absolutely delicious beer from the folks at Skookum. Would not hesitate to order this again.
