this is nelson juice, straight up. my first beer from these guys, super hazy and thick from the tap, on the edge of being overdone and too saturated with the hops, but its neither green nor harsh, the freshness is tremendous, and they have absolutely gotten the most out of these hops, really good, even if the beer maybe isnt incredibly well refined overall, at least its a little too dense for my tastes. murky pale orange toned from the tap, frothy inch of white head, no real visibility through it, a little dull, but lively enough. the nose is awesome though, white grape, pineapple candy, lemongrass, kiwi, lime leaf, all the good things, the essence of what southern hemisphere hops are all about, and at a higher than normal intensity level. despite all this hazy i dont get much from the grain or the yeast in the nose. the flavor is predictably hop driven, maybe a light raw doughy thing beneath the nelson, but its almost thick for no good reason to me. the hops pop though, meyer lemon, key lime, fresh muddled lemongrass, honeydew at peak ripeness, grassy summery white wine, its almost odd that its all as bold as it is, but it works, and it makes this quite unique. i could deal with a lot less body here, this is filling, but the hops make this a winner regardless. hoping to try some more from these guys next time i am up this way, i was impressed with the two i had while in the state last week. cool expression of nelson here!
