500ml brown glass bottle with pry-off crown cap was ~$10 NZD at a supermarket in Franz Josef, New Zealand.
6.7% ABV (surprisingly low for a dubbel...).
Looks too bright for the style. Deep amber in body colour.
Taste isn't right for the style, lacking sufficient dark fruit character and delicate Belgian yeast notes/esters. Nutty flavour, a hint of chocolate malt/chocolate covered cherry, caramel.
I don't know what this is, but what it is not is a Belgian dubbel. Tastes like a winter warmer brewed with Belgian yeast, or something. There're no dark fruits...no fig, no date, no prune, no plum; there're virtually no Belgian yeast flavours; the malt bill is too light; the ABV is suspiciously low.
A dud of an attempt at the intended style, but it's generally drinkable outside style conventions (albeit pricey).
Not a worthwhile beer from Moa.
