500ml bottle labeled with a 2012 vintage date.
A - Pours into a large snifter black with a brown head that's about a finger in size. A thick ring, slight swirly cap and bits of lace are left by the end.
S - Pretty heavy burnt roast with milk+dark chocolate and some raisiny dark fruits. Decent, pretty good strength, definitely on the simplistic side.
T - Taste is also quite straightforward with ashy roast and general dark malt making up most of the flavor. Still a chocolatey presence along with some light hoppiness and dark fruit.
M - Decent amount of heft to it, medium carbonation, pretty dry and bitter, not much for alcohol presence.
O - Perhaps past its prime - either way, not bad but a pretty average imperial stout.

Pours a two finger light brown head that fades to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Black color, no highlights. medium carbonation and medium bodied. Chocolate nose and flavor is baked chocolate and a lingering bitter aftertaste. $9.99 for a 500ml bottle from Julio's Liquors Marlboro, MA.

Medium stout (or at least double stout). Chocolate and hops and some coffee hints. Drinks medium to high sweetness with a good bit of hops. I don't see this aging too well, it is kinda watery. The beer drinks pretty light for a double and well it's ok.
An ok beer that isn't priced terribly. Epic's IPA's are better so yeah, ok to drink but don't go out of your way.

Bottle: solid dark brown 500mL bottle, decent craft label.
Appearance: this is an amazing looking beer - absolutely jet black - no highlights at all. A deep brown head puffs up to two-fingers and drops to a lasting one-centimeter with reasonable lacing.
Aroma: the dominant aroma is roasted malts without any discernible backing. There is definite dark chocolate and some coffee, but nothing leads the way. A tiny bit of dark fruits in the background.
Taste: again dark chocolate, roast coffee, a little alcohol, a very light hop bitterness also. You can't mistake the flavours here - a very strongly flavoured stout - nice.
Aftertaste: a bitterness carries through for some time, but again without any discernible flavour to it.
Mouth feel: great feel - thick in body with a light to moderate carbonation. Very smooth.
Overall: a very good quality stout - one of the better ones I have had to date. Very strong, very powerful. But is it worth AU$15 a bottle (2013)? Perhaps every now and then as a bit of an indulgence.

Bottle from New World in Wellington. From notes.
A - Poured black with good carbonation. Two fingers of thick chocolate ice cream coloured head. Good spots of lace and a half finger of retention.
S - Dark fruit, roast, chocolate.
T - Dark fruit, chocolatey fruits, quite roasty, cola.
M - Nice mild carbonation, medium body, drying finish.
O/D - Seemed to lack depth. Good enough but not as good as I was hoping based on my expectations of the brewery. Not bad.

Another new one from Epic and pours the darkest black kola hue which leaves a two finger mocha laced head and clingy lacing everywhere.
The smell is dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and fruity bitter hops, quite enticing.
The taste is dark chocolate, cocoa nibs, booze, black coffee,a touch of sour cherry and finished with a ever present fruity hoppiness.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, lightly carbonated and silky smooth.
Overall its a nice Hoppy stout and would age well, would buy again cheers.
