I had this on a recent trip to the Henan Province of China. I was told that this is the local beer that everyone there likes. It competes with another local called Gold Star, which is itself a bit more carbonated, medium bodied, and not altogether that good, but I digress. The Aoke beer, sometimes referred to as "okay" beer, is not very enticing. It is very light bodied, very light colored, only slightly carbonated, and pure straw and grass in the flavor department. Although I didn't analyze the smell as much as I would had I had this beer in the comforts of my living room, it didn't smell like much beyond a very pale American lager. The taste is very thin, a little tinny, produced with adjunct, and not well made. I had a relatively smallish glass of "okay" and quickly moved on. I haven't seen this except in China, and only in the Henan Province, so good luck finding it if you have your taste buds set on this one.

Brown Pint and a half bottles purchased in Sanya at a small roadside quickie mart. Label says Aoke Beer, 10P.

Appearance: Pale Yellow Straw.

Aroma: A touch of pale malt and a hint of grass.

Taste: A pinch of grass and a touch of grain. Corn like booze as it warms.

Mouthfeel: Light, bubbly, dry.

Drinkability: Is Busch Lite drinkable?

Note: In America, we call this "Near Beer."
