Birrificio Del Golfo “Donzella”
33 cl brown glass bottle, “Da consumarsi preferibilimente entro:10/2021 Lo 62/19”
€3,33 at the brewery on 29 November 2019
Notes via stream of consciousness: The aroma jumps out of the glass as you pour it, giving off notes of pine and grapefruit. It’s a hazy dark amber / copper in the glass beneath a finger + thick head of frothy off-white foam. The flavor exhibits a straightforward grainy maltiness that’s equally threaded through with notes of apple, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, and a light touch of orange. It’s quite pleasant, and perfectly balanced between sweetish malt and citrusy and piney hops with a stiff spike of bitterness at its core. It finishes dry with a little bit of pine and caramelish & apple-like maltiness lingering. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and crisp but with a little bit more of a fine-bubble than you usually find. It warms to become smooth in the end. All said and done this is an excellent interpretation of the American Imperial IPA style without flaw, and with a certain amount of focus in the hops whereas others quite often stray. Sometimes the simplest way is the best way, and this is an example of that.
