comes in the cascade standard green bottle with an attractive gold label.
forms a thin fine bubbly tan head that drops to a thin lace covering. color is a deep mahogany. dark but still able to see through the glass.
aroma is not too strong. mostly of roasted malt with some nuttiness behind.
suggested serving temp is 4C which seems rather cold but while drinking i noticed the peppery spiciness was replaced by a more mellow almost stout like flavor as it warmed up. i guess it depends on what you want as to how warm/cold you drink it, though i preferred the spiciness.
overall, not too bad but i would agree that there are other better beers available for not much more money.

Winter '04

Lowly carbonated and cola in colour, this has a think creamy head that persists.

Light aromas of spice, roasted malts and not much more. Kinda boring and plain.

Initial banana flavour soon makes way for bitter leafy and roasted flavours that linger in a unpleasant way on the palate. Kind of thin and no body to speak of. Flat, with no spritz, this has very poor mouthfeel.

This is really outshined by the imported dark wheats, and when compared, it has none of the creaminess that is associated with the worlds best. As for value for money, this also comes off second best.

they call this a winter warmer???? its a dunkelweiss!!! and a pretty ordinary one at that. what really annoys me is that they could have tried a porter, a stout, a strong ale or even a scotch ale as a winter beer. but thats just too complex for the boys at CUB to handle.

as far as the beer goes its not too bad. got a deep reddish color and creamy head that looks o.k. there was a huge blast of banana on the nose, with some small traces of sweet roastedness in there. drinking it tho it tasted too much like wheat without the burnt flavours there to compliment it, making it too too sweet for this kind of beer. there was a strange sour effedt on the middle palate, which was out of place considering all else here. very watery, as anyone who has tried any four seasons beer would have come to expect by now. the balance of the hops, once again, is all over the place. finishes weak, without the level of dry back bitterness that is required. and wheres the alcohol volume? if youre going to call a beer a winter warmer, the AV has to be around %6.

these fellas just dont want to make a real seasonal beer. its a sad reflection on beer drinking in this country that brews like this can get away with it. as ALEBOY has suggested, they are totally dumbing it down. if youre not going to put all the cards on the table, why bother? CUB has destroyed beer in australia for years, and four seasons is like a sly continuation of that. its like dressing up mutton and calling it lamb. very very annoying.

This was surprising, given the Autumn Amber and Summer Blondes crappyness. This actually had some OK, if a bit bland flavours. Faint sensations of banana, chocolate and roast, with emphasis on the word "faint". Acidic middle, that was nor bitter or sour. Watery mouthfeel. I'm still searching for the "mocha after taste" as it says on the label. Bland, but not all that bad. Why buy this for $5, when you can buy Aventinus for like a buck more.

Cascade Four Seasons Winter Warmer describes itself as a "drum roasted wheat beer" which means to me that I should be comparing it to other Dunkel weissens, and in doing that it lets itself down.

The Four Seasons series of beers is great for introducing the average swiller to a range of beers that they otherwise might not taste, but they are rather toned down versions of said such styles.

Winter warmer pours as a deep ruby brown and with none of the haziness that you would expect of a wheat beer. The aroma is again quite mild, although there is an interesting licorice note along with a faint touch of bitter chocolate. The flavour is much akin to the aroma with perhaps a touch of toffee that I am still not sure belonged there.

It is a decent little beer that I'm happy to drink, but, I'm just not sure that it is as good as it could be.
