Appears clear golden with a fluffy loose white head. Nose and flavour is light sweet cereal malts with mild floral hops. Palate is light and easy drinking.

Cascade Bright Ale heretofore not reviewed until now due to the fact that Cascade brews are average at best, and this is a 4.2% ABV Australian (approximation to English) Pale Ale, meaning, in my lexicon: shite. So how was I, a man of modest means and assertive beer tastes, persuaded from parting with the 4 odd dollars this beer costs? By a promise from the BSM (Bottle Shop Man) that Cascade had realised the error of their ways (or hired a new head brewer) and re-jigged the recipes of all their brews, dubious I popped the cap off the bottle and proceeded to the review.

Poured from a 375ml (tall) stubbie into a nonic pint.

A: 'Bright' apparently translates to a clear gold for Cascade. Along with this a thin white lacing where a head should be, now if this were a 7%+ ABV brew I would be thinking "Goody!" but as this is a 4.2% ABV brew I am thinking "Watery!".

S: Quite adjuncty and corn smelling for an ale, also not a hint of hops, bit of a fail - they should have named this a 'macro lager' as it is spot on macro lager here.

T: Not as bad as expected flavour-wise. Yes it does have some lager grain tendencies, but this is tempered with an actual hop note (some light citric bitterness) and though the finish is dry and lagerish there is some body to this brew that gives it an inherent "aleness". So it's OK with the intermastercatoritastereceptornaters then.

M: Lightish bodied with a moderate carbonation.

D: "Easy to drink", "crisp and refreshing" the label proclaims; these are as much warning labels to me as "smoking causes lung cancer" or "tobacco smoke is toxic", however this "Bright Ale" as it were isn't so bad, isn't so good either but I'll meet it halfway.

Food match: Fish and chips; the classic go-to for citric leaning lagers also applies with this brew... still not convinced this is an ale Cascade.
