Muddy and ruddy, this beer has an off-white head that's not too huge. I like the raw look a lot.
Smells somewhere between a dubbel or a Flemish sour, with a high mineral component, some tart cherry elements, hints of chocolate, and a lot of herbal something-or-other.
Taste is slightly sour, but not in a bad way but also not in a way that aficionados of sours will be dying for. The yeast is clearly Belgian, or Belgian-ish, with watery milk chocolate, all kinds of tart fruit, and big doses of herbal tea spiking the flavor that sits on the tongue like a real Belgian ale might. It's a bit sticky, and also generously carbonated; feels nice, with the yeast especially prominent in the finish.
It's pretty okay. Murder the Mountains (easily mistaken as being named "Red Fang") was brewed for Portland, OR-based band Red Fang, celebrating their appearance at Tilburg's Roadburn Festival. The beer is good, I like it more than I like the band, so I'm glad I came home from the festival with this one.
