I went to the actual brewery. El Bolson is probably the most commercially successful microbrewery in Argentina, you find their beer in any major supermarket, and I believe they were the first microbrewers in the country. Given that status and the recognition they have, they have built upon that, and have created a lot of beers with almost no body that seems to be OK for most of the argentinian palates. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, but it is just a bit tasteless and no dextrines. Only argentinian cascade in the bittering addition (low AA%) and no hop aroma. They didn't overdo the coffeish flavors, and it is not a sweet beer, which many black beers around argentina have.

Brought back from Argentina by eheff. The literal translation of "negra extra" is extra stout, however, the website has labeled this particular beer in the bock style--maybe this is how all stout's are categorized in Argentina. weird. Ingredients: Agua, Malta, Tostada, Lupulo, Levadura.
Pours a very dark brown color, almost black, with a one finger extremely fizzy caramel colored head. Dissipates rather quickly leaving a thin rim around the edge. Dark fruits of prunes and figs. Molasses and bitter coffee notes also. Toasted grain notes with a swirl of the glass, which brings back a massive head.
Hints of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit notes. A bit watery with a dark fruit concentrate thrown in there. Fruit notes last into the aftertaste. Prickly carbonation takes away almost all the flavor. Very light on the palate. I'm not sure what this beer is doing, but it's pretty pedestrian. Drinkable if I had to, but otherwise I'd pass.
