A - Appealing, small half-finger head, nice amber-copper color
S - Mild smell, some floral hops, nothing much else of note
T - Medium to high hoppy taste, some mild sweet fruitiness, some malt, but overwhelmingly bitter
M - Medium body, solid carbonation, good after-taste but far too dry
D - A solid IPA, but the dryness of the beer makes the hops a little too much to handle, overall though, good beer, sessionable

Tasted On-Tap 03/08/06 at the Independence Brewpub.
Copper in color with a low off-white head and decent carbonation. Virtually all malt in aroma and flavor with very little hop character to speak of considering the style. Biscuit and caramel malts maybe. Balanced to the malty side for sure. Medium bodied with a boring finish.
They must have changed the recipe since there is nothing remotely Cascadian about this one... Definitely not an American IPA - An English IPA thru and thru and a stretch at that... This place is afraid of hops. Yet another pass...
Per IB blackboard and menu: 15.5 OG. Dry hopped with Styrian Goldings & East Kent Goldings.
Per IB website: Pale & 5% Crystal Malt, Styrian Goldings hops. Dry hopped with Styrian Goldings.

I used to love this beer. Ive tried it before, but never rated it. Today, I gave it a whirl and something was amiss. I got it on tap at the pub, but something was off. It looked beautiful in the glass. Bright golden orange with lazy creeping bubbles with a huge slight off white head. It smelled of corn, green apples and dry earthy hops. The flavor was mostly corn and dirt. Something was terribly wrong. The last time I had it, it was wonderfully fruity cascade hops, but this time, it was dirty grapefruit. I hope this is a bad batch, but my rating will have to stand until I get a better pint. The mouth feel was very full with a light carbonation. Not good this time around. Ill be back to try it again in a few months.

One of two cask-conditioned. Very drinkable, cascade hops, floral and grapefuit aroma. Creamy smooth with significant grapefruit notes, bitter hop aftertaste. Medium bodied, I can stay with this all night. I convinced several of the guys at the bar to try it.

Orange in color with a 1" head. Some mild lacing develops through the drink. The aroma is of floral hops and sweet malt. The flavor is light on the malt, but strong on the orange citrus and hops. Overall this is sweeter than other American IPAs.
The mouthfeel was slightly thin and lightly crisp at the start, with a long bitter finish. Not bad drinkable brew, one of the better Independence beers.

Lasting cream top and whiffs of sugar and fruit present this IPA. Taste, too, was fruity, tropical fruits, and sweetish. Had a watery, bland feel overall to it with little hops in the aftertaste or in the mouth either, mostly just fruit punch. Straight-forward and not complicated. An IPA for those who like it mild.

Served as part of a sampler tray at their brewpub. Not a bad IPA. Poured out a bright and clear golden amber color and was topped with a small white film. Theres a slight malty aroma with some citrus hops there. The flavor is enjoyable and is tangy and bitter. Fruitiness comes out towards the end of the beer. Light to medium bodied and finishes crisp. Refreshing and not at all harsh. Out of the sampler, this was the one I needed to quench my thirst after having their hot ass chili.

This looked a nice deep gold with a quickly leaving white head and nice lacing.
The aroma was of sweet, a hint of piney, and earthy like hops.
The taste was not what I expected. It actually tasted a bit like the hop plant's cousin. It wasn't the typical IPA flavor I was used to. It had a clean finish, no bitter end.
Mouthfeel had that nice slick quality about it.
Drinkability was OK, it would have been higher except for the odd taste.

Golden straw color with very little head and no lacing. The smell is soft and hoppy, but lacking the crisp, astringent bite that my favorite IPAs have. The same can be said for the taste, in which the hops dominate the malts but without the bitter bite common to this style. The flavor is somewhere between bitter and sour--not bad, but not great. Mouthfeel too is clingier than in some IPAs. Where this one excelled is its drinkability, but I would happily trade that for a bolder taste.

Medium straw in color with light carbonation and quickly dissapearing head. Almost no lace, though that can be attributed to water used to wash glasses.
Light flowery nose with hint of astringency. Slightly bitter and not crisp. Smooth finish with slightly lingering bitterness. An average IPA, but good to introduce someone to the style if they are used to drinking swill. Good to quaff in larege quantities as it does not require much thought.

I must have tried this when a bad batch was at the brewpub. Unlike others I tasted a very sour malt based beer. There was a slightly sweet nose with a lasting white sheen over the brew. There was a slight note of fruit to the finish. There was no rounded hop bitterness at all to the brew. Clear amber in color, this beer just had no character at all. 6% ABV. Not drinkable at all as an IPA..

Pours a orange / amberish color, The head small, off-white color. Mouthfeel is smooth. On the nose the aroma was slight biscuit, pines, citrus. Same thing on the palate small hints of pine and citrus, and some fruitiness in there as well. Decent mellow IPA...

Deep golden with a hazy, unfiltered appearance. This is in fact an unfiltered IPA. Nice smooth malt and mildly bitter hop profile. Alcohol warms the belly, though I didn't confirm the %abv. A good all around brew.
