Color is an appropriately reddish amber; seemed quite dark, but the room wasn't particularly well lit either. Smell is malty and rather rich--pleasant but weak. Also OK but weak in taste--nice but unexceptional malts and some hops in the background. All of the flavorful edges seemed to be shaved off this beer (in a style that is already less than bold). My first impression was that I was drinking wet cardboard, but by the end, I grew more used to it. Mouthfeel is reasonably smooth but has a clinginess that's too much (that cardboard thing again). I've not found any of the Independence offerings to be exceptional, but like the others, this one is acceptable.
