Brauerei zum Schwarzen Adler “Burgfürst Premium Beer”
500 ml can coded “16.12.2020 10:45 A4”
€1,50 on the street in Firenze
Notes via stream of consciousness: Well I’ve stepped in it again, haven’t I? There’s nothing premium about this beer other than the word included in the label. It’s a light straw gold in color beneath a short head of white foam that drops shortly to an average collar with some small ‘islands’ of lace floating in the middle. The aroma actually has a little bit of hop to it that’s mainly herbal, and there’s a touch of malt as well. It’s better than the kind of generic “beer” aroma that some of these Euro “pilsners” have, and coming from Germany it’s quite clean. Hmmm, maybe I’m work about this. Just because it’s light in color and 4.3% alcohol doesn’t mean that it’s crap - although I haven’t tasted it yet! OK, here goes... ahh, it’s not bad. It’s not great but it’s not bad. It’s much better than some of the fernsehen or bahnhof biers I’ve had in the past. There’s some actual grainy maltiness to it, not much, but it is just 4.3%, and the hops come through although they’re also limited. It’s kind of like a somewhat watery Pilsner. That’s not saying much but it does say something, and at certain times on certain days I could certainly go for one (or more) of these. In the mouth it’s light-medium in body, and appropriately gently crisp. The median bitterness balances it nicely and it finishes dry, softly herbal, and even a touch spicy. To some up, it’s nicely done as far as balance and polish go; and it’s certainly possible that I’ve got a less than “beer clean” glass in front of me as it’s just a hotel room glass (which explains the lack of head retention and lacing in addition to that fact that it’s just a little bit of a lighter beer to begin with). As I tour around the streets of Tuscany I’d consider buying this again just as a refresher, OR, if it was cheap enough and available to me at home as an occasional light beer or “lawnmower” beer. Ha ha, or a fernsehen bier. Review #6,807

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
