Doppio Malto "Stone Ale"
33 cl brown glass bottle, "Da consumarsi preferibilmente entro il: 07 2018 L 143 17"
Notes via stream of consciousness: I was so impressed with the beers that I sampled at the Doppio Malto Brew Restaurant in Rome that I decided to take a few bottles with me. This one appealed to me because of the name, "Stone Ale". I figured I'd better try it before they get a cease and desist order, and it was the only bottle to have a newer looking label so I knew it must be fresh. It's poured a slightly hazy, dark amber/copper colored body beneath a short head of white foam. Unfortunately the head has dropped by now and it's just a standard collar. In the nose it's malty and fruity and slightly herbal/minty. I'm finding notes of peach and apricot. It's interesting, and enticing, but overall not a very bold aroma. On to the flavor... more fruitiness in the same vein with some apple added in. I thought the malt would be more caramelish but it's not, it's very lightly caramelish and really more of a basic, grainy, golden malt base. It's quite smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation level, and not that bitter, perhaps offering 25 IBUs. Some of the herbal and minty hops show up in the finish but not much. It's actually quite refined. Vey nice. I love the fruitiness, it's somewhat unique, and now I wish I'd bought more. Well, that can be solved with just a short walk back this afternoon. Recommended.
