Birrificio Doppio Malto "Magnus"
3,80€ / 20 cl alla spina @ Doppio Malto - Milano Duomo, Milano, IT on 28 November 2025
Notes: This is a limited edition beer for the 2025 winter season. It's brewed with DOP Calabrian licorice.
Look: Clear, deep copper with crimson and orange highlights beneath a full, two-finger tall head of khaki colored foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Malty with notes of dark bread, creamy coffee, and herbs.
Taste: Richly malty, bready, and caramelish. Lots of caramel! Some coffee-like roastiness remains, and you can taste the licorice which gives it an herbal, and almost tobacco-like note in the finish. There's just a bit of alcohol to it, and along with a moderate bitterness of 20 IBUs that keeps it from becoming sweet. Nicely balanced with a lingering finish.
Feel: Full bodied and smooth.
Overall: Nicely done. It's well-balanced and well-rounded, as well as unique.
