Last Thursday, my brother and I decided to hit the Santa Barbara breweries to get a sample of his new city, having just moved there the previous week.
This would have been the best of the beers that we tried at Hollister were it not for their guest beer: Alpine Duet - which is a top 5 all time IPA for me. The comparison is really not fair, but it was inevitable since I had the Duet directly before Hollister's. That said Hollister's held up impressively.
Nice sweet and piney aroma and taste. The malt presence balanced things out quite well. There nothing subtle about the hops - and that's how I like it. A quality West Coast IPA. It reminded me a lot of another tasty IPA from the Santa Barbara from the SB Brewing Company. It was no surprise to find out the former brewer there was part of starting up Hollister.
On my next trip there, I'm coming home with a growler of this!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
