Nitro tap at the brewpub. Black with ruby edges and a creamy tan head. Coffee aroma; lots of roasted malts, though a little muted. The flavor is quite bitter with lots of roasted malt coffee type flavors, but also has a hint of malt sweetness. Finished bitter and dry, with hops and well as burnt malt. The mouthfeel is a little flat, as is to be expected with nitro, but is better than usual, with more body than I expected for the strength. Overall, the bitterness and body are a welcome qualities when I wasn't expecting much more than a guinness clone. Packs a good amount of flavor in for a four percent beer; much more than its Irish namesakes that you usually find stateside.

Consumed 05/25/08.
Clear dark brown beer with ruby highlights. Plenty of active carbonation. Served on nitro for that dense, micro-bubble creamy tan head we all know and love.
Aroma is roasted malt.
Creamy and a little thin, this beer is all about coffee flavor. Burnt dark malts provide the bitterness. That's all there is to this one.
If this was an attempt to replicate Guinnes, it's not a good one. But it is a drinkable enough brew, expecially considering the low ABV.
