Que the reggae and pop the top on this can of lager and immediately the mind and soul goes directly to the Cayman Islands without passing go or collecting $200.
As the lager pours, it swirls with a light golden body and a lively dance of carbonation. Once it settles the beer streams with champagne-like carbonation to fuel a fluffy white cap, carrying an arid texture. Light speckled lace clings to the glass as the head recedes. Unfortunately, this quality appearance is short-lived as the foam and bubbles collapse rather quickly.
Lightly floral, the mild hop notes is lightly of honeysuckle, just before the scent of straw, hay and dry grain ensue. Slightly sweetish, a taste seemingly of corn rises along side of match stick-like sulfur and a whiff of apple and lemon acidity.
Its grain-sweet taste is only modestly malty and has the flavor of light bread and fresh yeast. Grain, corn and mild aspartame rise in the middle along side of the hay, malt and apple. Trailing with a spicy hop bite, sulfur and a minerally seltzer water character- the ale is narrowly crisp and clean.
Light and grainy in texture, the beer's sweetness is accompanied with the ongoing pilsner-type astringency and a grassy hop bite. The light scrubbing action of sulfur and alcohol is more of an aid than a deterrent.
There's really not much that separates this island beer from any other. Its a light, refreshing, crisp and clean beer that celebrates little outside of its thirst quenching properties.
