Copenhagen 9/2 2016. 50 cl bottle from Gunnar Madsen Vinhandel, Østerbrogade, Kbh. Ø. Deranged Uncle Sam flashing a lot of gold and dollars on the label.
Pours hazy amber with a white head. A bit bubbly. Disappears fairly fast leaving only a flimsy layer of foam. Moderate lacing.
Aroma has a fruity sweetness mingling with honey, pepper and a hint of ammonia sourness.
Soft carbonation and thick oily palate. Viscous and almost flat.
Flavor is syrupy sweet followed notes of licorice and ammonia. Medium strong bitterness in the aftertaste saves the day. Actually a little Rye in the aftertaste as well.
Nicely balanced - a bit on the sweet side - but a quite interesting brew.

Pocketful of Dollars from Amager Bryghus. Purchased 11/10/20 for $9.25 (Including tax and discount) for 16.9 oz bottle ($ 0.547/oz) from State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD. Reviewed 3/1/21.
Undated bottle. On room temperature shelf at store and stored at home at 42 degrees. Served at 49.2 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 53.2 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), clear.
Body – Deep gold (SRM 6), clear. When held to direct light, same with marked effervescence.
Head – Large (Maximum six cm, aggressive center pour), pearl white, low density and frothy, average retention, diminishing to a nine to fourteen mm undulating crown fed by effervescence, and a complete rocky cap. Second pour produces a five cm head and tons of precipitate.
Lacing – Poor. A couple of chunks of lacing struggle to remain perilously clinging to the glass.
Aroma – 3.5 – Begins weakly spicey with a touch of floral hops, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins with a bit of rye spiciness which slowly fades to some maltiness, no yeast. No alcohol (6.9 % ABV, as marked on container) found in either nose or taste. Gastric warming does not occur. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends with some bitter maltiness.
Palate – 3 – Medium, watery, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 (Minus 0.25 point for undated container) Pretty average shot at a rye lager, certainly not what I’d expect from Amager.

From the bottle, it pours a cloudy copper color. A large foam white head displays good retention.
Sweet aromas show notes of biscuity and toasty amber malts, caramel and jammy fruit. The aromatic spices of the rye malt soon develop, along with floral hops.
Medium to full bodied with doughy, biscuity and caramel malt sweetness. Smooth and chewy with moderate to gentle carbonation; its fullness of jammy fruit flavors make it taste more ale than lager like. A nice balance develops as the spicy rye becomes the star of the show. Earthy hops add some piney bitterness along with a touch of citrusy brightness. The finish is dry with piney and grassy hops and a resiny linger.
I really enjoyed this rye ale as it is full flavored and drinkable.

Aroma is citrus, malts/rye and off-notes/paint. The flavor is citrus, fruit/berries, malts, very smooth in the middle and mild rye spiciness in the finish.
