From our series "Wicked Tales of Scotland" - 4 whisky barrel-aged beers released at the brewery February 2nd 2019.
Whisky Barrel Aged Heavily Peated Imperial Stout (Laphroaig).
Now first of all, don’t get things mixed up: Black Donald was here way before that other Donald. And Black Donald is not involved in race or politics. Black Donald is all about plain evil, because he is himself the Devil – plain and simple. Black Donald takes many shapes. He may come as the well-dressed guest at the poker table – only given away by the cloven-hoofed goat feet he hides underneath. Those feet will always give him away, no matter what disguise he uses. And as a goat is how you’ll most often see him – with a long chain clanking after him. As this shape-shifting goat, Black Donald is known to cause terror all over the North of Scotland, often for no other purpose than to simply frighten people. If for some reason you need the help of the Devil – for instance against your enemies – a so called taghairm can be formed. A sort of spiritual calling involving the spit-roasting of live cats. It’s a long and complicated ceremony, and we honestly cannot recommend it. Also since you will forever be indebted to Black Donald himself.

Copenhagen 19/3 2019. 33 cl bottle from Mikkeller Webshop. Laughing Devil which is not Donald Trump (for once) but Black Donald on the label. Part of Amager Bryghus' Wicked Tales of Scotland series.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small light beige head. Disappears almost completely after a minute. No lacing. Aroma is dark, strong and peaty. Heavy sweetness with brown sugar, molasses, peat and alcohol. Some boozy wood lurking in the background.
Light but notable carbonation. Thick, oily, lightly prickly, tough texture.
Flavor is heavy sweet followed by a medium strong boozy, bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a strong boozy barrel feel. Wet alcoholic rub in the gullet.
A mean, peaty and boozy devil. You will have to be into peated malts and whisky to be into this one.

I love the peat. As an RIS it’s way too thin, but the taste is solid.

Enjoyed at about 60F, wonderful heavy Islay whisky up front, heavy peat, smoke, dark chocolate then a plum-fig finish that lingers - but not too long and a medium mouthfeel.
My all-time favorite and possibly the only one I would give a 5 for. If you like Islay whiskys, then this is for you.

330 ml bottle, shared with Holmen1 and Holmen2. ABV is 11%. Black colour, tan head. Strong aroma of dark malts, oak and peated Scotch whisky. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma.

De Hopt. En copa Teku. Viendo Mr Robot 3x03. Huele y sabe muchisimo a alcohol y turba, y se sube a la cabeza excesivamente. Se echa en falta presencia de la madera. Gran decepcion

L: Very dark brown/black color, quarter finger brown head, excellent thin lacing, light carbonation.
S: Whiskey, chocolate, alcohol.
T: Whiskey, smokey, chocolate, sweet, lots of alcohol. Good but a slow sipper for sure. Reminds me a bit of Brewdog Paradox Islay.
F: Full bodied, full flavored.
O: A high quality strong ale. Not for everybody but it's exceptional for what it is.
