An Imperial Porter made with Amarena cherries and cherry puré.
There are so many myths and tales surrounding Christmas that we feel it would be a good deed to clear up a thing or two. For instance, many people mistakenly claim that the Christmas tree was invented by a plastic company somewhere in South East Asia around 1950. But that's all bollocks. It happened in the 17th century already and the plastic factory wasn't in South East Asia, but in Riga, in the Baltics. Also, we hear tales of big, red and very delicate glass balls being used to decorate the tree, when in fact those are huge, Italian Amarena cherries spiked with vodka and LSD - made to help calm moms and dads with many small kids and get them through the Christmas days...

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of roasted, bready malt, some dark chocolate and lighter coffee, as well as just a hint of cherries. Taste is an excellent balance of quite roasted, bready malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and cherries, with hints of dark fruit and tobacco also coming through. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt and dark chocolate, coffee and cherries lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
I'm actually very thankfull that this doesn't have that kinda typical "Mon Cherie" feel to it that Cherry Stouts/Porters often take on, with this being a lot less sweet and the cherries not being quite as distinct, with the roasted malt taking center stage here, which is just how I like it personally. There's quite a roasted, dry and bitter flavor profile to this, with the cherries adding just a hint of sweetness and even lighter tartness here, definitely being noticeable, but not distracting from the roasted malts too much. Overall, this makes for a great Cherry Porter that puts the emphasis on the malts rather than the additives, while these still shine through well enough. Very nicely balanced for my personal palate, with a pretty nice body and mouthfeel as well.
