On tap at the Maui Brewing Company Brewpub in Lahaina, HI.
Pours an almost opaque super dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, earth, and char aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, vanilla frosting, earth, and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice vanilla presence that works well with the other qualities I am getting from this one.

Sampled fresh, on tap while visiting the Kihei Brewery. This is a deep, dark, roasty beer that is true to the style. Drinking Imperial Stout after a hot morning of hiking the southern tip of Maui somehow hit the mark for me. There are heavy roasted malt and coffee flavours throughout - nose, body and finish. It looks great in the glass - lovely head retention, pitch black body, and suitably frothy. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of taps and glad I chose this beer.

Brand new offering from MBC trying it straight from the growler into the snifter! This beer looks really nice, great head retention but little lacing and it has a pitch black color. I can't pick up jack shit on the nose which is weird. There are just subtle aromas of vanilla and some roasted malt but that is hardly noticeable. Taste is good not great. Some roasted coffee notes along with nutmeg and some vanilla and chocolate in there. It is on the less thick side for a RIS so the feel is average to me. Overall this beer is good but nothing exceptional. I would take their Imperial Coconut Porter over this any day.
