Had this beer back in 2017 at the OBF. I rated this beer average at the time. I'm guessing from reading the other reviews that it was probably a little to lite to give it a higher rating.

12 oz can. Pours a cloudy gold color with a large off-white head and very good retention. Minimal lacing. Strong Belgian yeast flavor and only minor citrus taste. More hefe than fruit beer.

Pours a cloudy maize color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of clove, slight yeast, wheat, hint of citrus, and a hint of hops. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of slight clove, slight yeast, wheat, slight citrus, and a hint of hops. Overall, weak appearance, mostly clove, and lacking in complexity.

8oz glass from the leftovers of the Maui tap takeover at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square. Just in time for the Battle of Alberta CFL Western Final!
This beer appears a murky, yet bright medium apricot amber colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves a few instances of sea spume lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of bready and grainy wheat malt, indistinct domestic citrus rind, some subtle white pepper and coriander spice, a touch of earthy yeastiness, and a bit of very tame leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy wheat malt, some phenolic yeast, a still muddled citrus and tropical fruitiness, plain earthy spice notes, and more understated leafy, herbal, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly benign in its complacent frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess arising shortly after takeoff here. It finishes well off-dry, the fruity malt carrying the lingering day.
Overall - this is one aptly named version of the style, with the near-pineapple and mango juicy fruitiness certainly evoking memories of the many brews that I consumed during my visit to the islands a few years ago. Good stuff.

Probably upgraded because I'm drinking this at work after a brutal week. Right out the can. Smell is classic Heff, not getting a ton of mango in the nose. A bit more tropical in flavor and tasty as hell. Not sure how good this beer is but it's my favorite beer of the day... so far.

12 ounce can into weizen glass, canned on 6/29/2017. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of juicy/lightly tart mangos, banana, bubblegum, pepper, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, mangos, bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart mangos, banana, bubblegum, pepper, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/grassy bitterness, yeast spiciness, and mango tartness, and wheat tang on the finish. Lingering notes of mangos, banana, bubblegum, pepper, clove, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, mangos, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly tangy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a delicious fruited hefeweizen. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, mangos, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, flavorful, and refreshing to drink. Really great balance between fruit, yeast, and malts; with a nice well rounded yeast ester profile that delivers on my expectations for the style completely. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

I picked up a can of Maui Brewing's Mango Hefeweizen for $2.09 at The Lager Mill. I'm interested to see how see how hefeweizen and mango flavors go together, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a 12oz can into a weizen glass.
A- The can looks ok, it's a little plain and not the most eye catching. It poured a cloudy darker orange color that didn't change when held to the light and it had a finger and half worth of creamy white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some patchy lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking Hefe, I have no complaints.
S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the mango being the first to show up and it imparts a nice mango puree aroma that goes right into the hefe yeast which imparts a good amount of spices with a little bit of banana aroma showing up also. Towards the end comes the malts which are a little on the lighter side and they impart some wheat, bready and sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, the mango works well with it.
T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but it's just a little lighter and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with yeast being the first to show up and it imparts all the same aspects that it did in the aroma and it shows up just as much and it goes right into the mango which is a little noticeable, but it's lighter than it was in the aroma. Towards the ends comes the malts which show up just a little more than they did in the aroma and they impart all the aspects. On the finish there's pretty much no bitterness with some sweetness taking it's place and it had a fruity and spicy yeast aftertaste. This is a decent tasting Hefe, but it would be better if more mango flavors came through.
M- Smooth, pretty crisp, slightly refreshing a little fizzy, medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.
Overall I thought this was a decent beer and I thought it was pretty close to be an average example of the style, the hefe base was solid but when it came to the mango aspects it was lighter than i was hoping for. This beer had ok drinkability, one is enough for me, anymore than that and I would become bored with the flavor. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, they were both good and the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is the mango flavors, they were just lighter than they needed to me and it didn't make it live up to it's name. I don't think I would buy this beer again, but I wouldn't turn one down and I can't say it's a must try. All in all it wasn't bad, but it needs some work before it becomes a memorable Mango Hefe. It's now one of my least favorite beers from this brewery and it's pretty close to being and average example of the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could use a little more work.

Pours hazy orange-honey color with a pillowy white head. Aroma is grains of paradise with hints of bubblegum and, of course, mango. However, the mango aroma blends well into the other, more classic aromas; nice and balanced, and genuine. More spices and weizen yeast character in the flavor. Mango is very subtle to me. Carbonation is high, and the body is a round, medium-full with creamy texture. Finishes off-dry, and grainy.

Maui has been pretty good to me in recent months, so I went ahead and grabbed a sixer of this to show my support of their solid brews. The way I figured, even if this ends up just being a normal hefe with some light tropical notes, it'll probably still be great for the waning days of Summer. Glad to see I was vindicated with this one!
Pours a hazy deep orange-yellow color with a rather bountiful head of pure, bone-white foam that recedes to about a finger in my glass. Very light spotty lace and a hazy surface on this one. Loving the opacity and color, here... I'd say it's a few shades darker than most hefes I've had any time in recent memory.
The nose here is very spicy, phenolic and wheat-forward with a lot of clove and lighter tropical notes of pineapple and, you guessed it, mango. However, the added fruit is much lighter than even I expected. I understand that the expressive yeast of a hefeweizen is not exactly the best canvas for something delicate and equally-flavorful like tropical fruit, but I thought it might mesh with some of the banana-like esters typical of the hefe style. To my surprise, though, Maui seems to have chosen a much more clove-forward strain to ferment this with, and it's somewhat intriguing with the fruit addition.
Flavor is a bit juicy and heavy on the wheat and clove/phenol elements once again. Very prominent spice with some notes of stone fruit (apricot, mostly) and very light citrus. Sweet mango and pineapple come through a bit more as this warms up. Reminds me of fruit cocktail mixed with a traditional Bavarian hefe (perhaps one more like Franziskaner than Weihenstephan, if we're nit-picking), and that's pretty cool.
Feel is fairly spritzy with a moderately-high carbonation and a nice, crisp wheat feel that lasts pretty deep into the beer getting to room temperature. It's a solid hefe with a rather normal mouthfeel. If you really want a mango beer, though, you're going to probably feel disappointed with this one, as the mango here is pretty much an afterthought. I'm okay with that due to the style on order here, but it has to be said. It comes across very slightly, but I would likely never guess it was an added ingredient if they hadn't labeled the beer that way. Take that as you will. Still, I will greatly enjoy crushing the last five of these I bought!
