8oz glass from the leftovers of the Maui tap takeover at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square. Just in time for the Battle of Alberta CFL Western Final! The bartender almost actively tried to dissuade me from ordering this one.

This beer appears a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with a thin cap of wispy and faintly bubbly off-white 'head', which leaves but a few instances of remote islet speck lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of gritty and grainy pale malt, an indistinct tropical fruitiness, some subtle estery yeast, overripe grocery store citrus rind, and plain leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, an ethereal caramel sweetness, some weird roasty notes, musty domestic citrus peel, and more understated herbal, grassy, and dead floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly inert in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a generic medium weight, and mostly smooth, but for a bit of ashy hops 'somehow' getting in the way here. It finishes off-dry, barely, as the malt fades to black.

Overall - I don't know what it is with this Hawaiian brewing concern, but when they're not employing local adjuncts in their offerings, things tend to fall flat. Not getting what part of the titular region they were going for here, but, sad to say, the Great Pacific garbage patch comes to mind.
