A strong Belgian with good yeast and hop flavors. Some of us get a soapy off-flavor, but that is tempered by an extremely enjoyable aftertaste that had us coming back for more after every sip.

Canned 091318, so not the freshest sample. Thanks to Margaret and Dimple for the gift. 12oz poured into a pint glass and served cold.
Appearance - slightly hazy, dark golden color. Plentiful head measuring a couple fingers. Good staying power, lacking lacing and lots of visible carbonation.
Smell - leafy hops, tropical melon and pineapple with some Belgian candi sugar.
Taste - middling bitterness, some sweetness from the candi sugar and leafy and earthy hops abound, less tropical than the nose.
Mouthfeel - medium bodied, dry finish and good expressive carbonation.
Overall - I'm a sucker for this style, so even though this is elderly it still grades out as quite a good beer. Worth a try if you can get it fresh and affordably.

12oz can
Pours a finger of white head into my stemless tulip glass. Head retention is pretty good, lasting a good 3 or 4 minutes before dissipating to a hefty film and great initial lacing. Body is a dark burnt orange. Pretty clear other than the color obstruction, and a medium amount of bubbles coming up. Looks pretty nice so far.
Nose has a fair amount of pineapple, not very acidic, more of a soft pineapple juice aroma. Belgian yeast, clove. Smells on the sweeter side. Not very hoppy. Not a very IPA esque smell in general, but I guess it works. Overall a very nice smelling nose, but I would like that bright aspect the IPA part usually brings to this style.
Flavor is similar. Pineapple, yeast, a little malty, not much hop presence. Light booze in the finish. This is ok, but it’s not really doing what the style should be hitting home on – big hops and big yeast character are dwarfed by some unnecessary flavors, and lack of emphasis. Booze in the finish doesn’t help and is surprising given the ABV.
Mouthfeel is a touch on the sweeter side, and while it’s not a sugar bomb, it does make the beer a little sticky going down. Carbonation is medium, body is medium as well, has some chewiness to it. Boozy feel doesn’t help. Ok overall, but veeeery rough around the edges.
Drinkability is brought down by the booze and slight sugar interference.
Appearance turned out quite nice. Lacing was pretty thick all the way down the glass. Film disappeared completely, but the head overall was sturdy for the most part.
Overall an ok beer, but just missing the mark a little bit.
Edit: As this beer sat for a little while the flavor really cleaned up. And while it still wasn’t a hop or yeast bomb, it was pretty nice. Will raise the taste to a four.

12oz can - a collaboration with Portland's Breakside. The name apparently means 'many hands working together' in Hawaiian.
This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and mildly bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent spiderweb pattern lace around the glass as it rather lazily subsides - island time, I guess.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, some orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus peel, a bit of estery yeastiness, and more leafy, weedy, and resinous piney green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy cereal malt, mixed domestic citrus rind, a further indistinct tropical fruitiness, ethereal Belgian yeast, and more earthy, herbal, and piney verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-coddling frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a touch of yeasty character maybe not toeing the company line here. It finishes trending dry, the hops consolidating their lingering stranglehold.
Overall - this comes off as a fairly well-made version of the style, with the focus on the hops (instead of the yeast) sealing the deal for me. That, and with no sign of the extra 2 points and change of ABV, I can enjoy sipping on the rest of this, staring out into the void that is February in Alberta.
