12oz can
Pours over a finger of white head into a Stella Artois glass. Pretty soapy and I can hear it fizzing, doesn’t look like nitro at all. Retention is poor and fades completely within a minute or two, however it does leave a substantial film on top of the body. Initial lacing looks subpar as well. Body is a golden orange, crystal clear, with a medium amount of bubbles coming up. Looks meh so far.
Nose is light toasted coconut, Pilsner malt. A touch of sugar, but despite the lactose addition, the coconut comes across as more savory, definitely toasted. Overall pretty light, but the coconut adds a little weight to the nose. Not bad for what it is, works pretty well.
Yeah there is not a lot going on here but it actually works pretty well. Certainly a little sweet, but appropriate, not cloying. That sweetness blends well with the toasted coconut, which is a little subtle, but not hard to find. A little Pilsner malt comes through, but mostly you taste a neutral beer with some coconut and sugar. That makes it sound bland, but it isn’t. Nice flavor.
Carbonation is peculiar, it’s quite smooth, but not to the point of nitro because there are clearly bubbles tingling the tongue. Let’s call it quasi nitro. Regardless, it works well. Noticeably heavy on the palate, like seriously. That weight compliments the coconut and smooth feel very well. Bitterness is hardly noticeable. Great mouthfeel that works well with the flavor.
Drinkability is pretty high. This is not hard to put back at all and the weight does not slow you down.
Appearance turned out pretty poor. Lacing was nonexistent, and any film that had settled, disappeared.
Overall I’m not blown away, but I’m quite pleased. The characteristics of this beer really work well with each other, from top to bottom.
