When in Hawaii you must eat like a Hawaiian, so you might as well drink like one too. The staple of passionfruit, orange and guava give the islands a distinctive taste that extends into Maui Brewing Co. and their hazy IPA.
Pale and hazy gold, Hazy POG wastes no time building a creamy and pillowy white froth that carries the scent of those tropical fruit clear across the nose. With a backdrop of grain sweetness and floral hops, the taste soon exudes the same cereal, honeysuckle and shortcake character.
With the hops abounding on the middle palate, the citrusy taste of white grapefruit, orange and lime set a foundation of fruitiness before the passionfruit, orange and guava that pull the flavors decidedly toward the tropical side. Finishing smoothly bitter and herbal, the late flavors come with verbena, spruce, sassafras, sun tea and a twinge of hemp.
Medium bodied, creamy and pleasantly plush, the hazy ale finishes malty-dry and with a bitter-sweet closure. As the taste of fruit peels and rinds carry into a medium-long aftertaste so do memories of tropical vacations with every sip.
