NF's first attempt at Barrel Aging (along with a Scotch, that I didn't get to try), and I suspect it won't be their last. Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a nearly solid black, just a hint of reddish translucence at the edges, with 1/2 inch of creamy nitro head that had great retention and lacing.
The scent was a bit too bourbon forward, IMHO, but not so much that it covered up the pleasant roast of the base beer.Same story on the tongue, bourbon at the front, roast and grain in the middle, and a nice mix of the two that lingered at the finish.
The body was very good, smooth, even, full without being heavy, and with a relatively clean finish. Drinkability was very good, the flavors weren't weak or overpowering, making for a very pleasant experience. Overall, a very, very good brew that borders on excellent. If you happen to encounter it while it's around, it's a certain must-try.
