This tart Raspberry number weighs in at 7%. The aroma and color is indicative of Whatcom County Berryland's finest. Enjoy the moderate Brett funk and sour dry finish of this bottle conditioned selection.

Poured from a big 1 pint 9.3 fl.oz. cork and cage bottle into a Teku.

Appearance: Lovely raspberry juice color with a fizzy pink head Not a clear beer at all! Very dark red almost wine-like in appearance.

Aroma: Plenty of tart raspberry followed with some brett funk. Also, getting some wet hay and vinegar tartness, but the funky raspberry aromas definitely dominate this one!

Taste: Lovely. Just plain balanced and lovely. Now I don't claim to be a sour tasting expert, but I love how the funk, sour/tart and raspberry sweetness is just so balanced. Not a whole lot of vinegar sourness on this one either, just the right amount of that vinegar "burn" in the back of the throat.

Mouthfeel: Subtle and light feel. The carbonation comes back vigorously after a light swirl of the glass. A light lingering sourness and raspberry tartness which is quite appealing.

Overall: I love this beer! From the moderate Brett funk to the raspberry tartness and just the right amount of delicate carbonation. This is really great! Would love to have this more readily available that's for sure!

1pt.9.3oz bottle received as part of a box of Whatcom county goodness courtesy of beertunes. This is a “Deming Style” Limited Edition Raspberry Sour Ale, brewed in 2015. Apparently, this was a one-time thing and could only be purchased at North Fork, located in tiny Deming, WA, on the slopes of Mt. Baker.

Poured into a Selkirk Abbey glass, this was somewhere between red and pink in color, with a massive, sudsy, slightly pinkish head that dropped after about 4 minutes, leaving almost no sign it had ever been there, yet was easily agitated back to life.

Tart and sweet nose, in that order. As one might surmise, it is redolent of raspberries. I love raspberries. As it warms, a mild, barnyard aroma from the brett becomes apparent, but it’s a supporting player rather than a star.

Taste follows aroma. Tart, slightly sour raspberry flavor hits the taste buds, with a little sweetness peeking through out of the background, along with a very restrained, slightly bitter, sourness that reminded me of a viniagrette. Things end with a bone-dry finish at the swallow, with a little bit of a raspberry-juice like aftertaste lingering on the tongue. Sure, there’s a little funk in there, but it’s wrapped in a cloak of raspberries.

Light-to-medium in body, with a coating mouthfeel that is surprisingly crisp for what it is.

This is a fantastic beer. I wish I had one to share with others that are afraid of sour, funky beers. I think it might make a convert or two. Amazed this has never been reviewed before. Thanks so much for this, beertunes!
