From the brewery website: "A blend of mixed culture and spontaneously fermented blonde ales aged in red wine barrels for 12-16 months, was racked onto 3lbs per gallon succulent local strawberries for a secondary fermentation before bottle conditioning with brettanomyces clausenii."
12.68oz bottle poured into 14oz teku. Poured a very cloudy dark red color with just the thinnest cap of off-white head that had no retention or lacing. A very still beer.
The aroma had some tartness upfront, backed by a very solid strawberry aroma. There was a faint bit of grain in the background.
On the tongue, all those aspects were amplified and exploded: the strawberries were bold, the yeast funk solid and tart, the grain floating nicely around the edges, and just a touch of a floral flavor from the 12 year old hops.
The body was light, smooth, crisp, and had a wonderfully tart and dry finish.
Drinkability was great, the flavors and tartness played well against each other to keep the palate interested throughout the bottle.
Overall, a great beer. A must try if you see it.
