Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark, brownish orange with a thin white head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, raisins, hints of light stone fruit and mild whiskey. Flavor is dry caramel malt, raisins, dates, whiskey and some dry musty woodiness; flavor tapers off a bit into the finish with whiskey and light, fresh cut wood astringency. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid English style barleywine profile with dark dried fruit and caramel. The whiskey is a bit subdued, but makes the flavor more interesting. The finish is a little thin, revealing more of the woody barrel character. Mellowed satisfactorily in the cellar for a year.
