Poured from 500mL waxed bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku. They've aged this separately on cacao nibs and toasted coconut in whiskey barrels and blended them.
Appearance: rich amber hue with a bit of haze and a nice effervescence. Head is three fingers of beautiful tan foam that demonstrate a lovely cascading effect, and sticks around a nice long time. Great!
Smell: nicely sweet malt aroma with a rather nutty character, along with a bit of caramel and biscuit. Kind of like an imperial amber ale, or something. It doesn't say cacao, coconut, or whiskey to me, but I do like it.
Taste: that nuttiness from the aroma definitely exposes itself as coconut in the flavor. The whiskey and cacao are both much more subtle, but I do get some lovely dark fruit flavors of raisin, cherry, and tobacco. There's even a very slightly dry, astringent finish here. Really good.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess. Good, but wouldn't take much more to really make this wonderful.
Overall: a really good beer. Winter warmers and amber ales are not generally my thing, but this is a special anniversary beer that is very well done. Kudos!
