Strong brown ale brewed with an emphasis on chocolate malt character, accentuated with fruity Idaho 7 and Centennial hops. For a wee twist we added roasted cacao nibs to this batch #3 and aged it in American rye whiskey barrels. Well, tie my lead and pull my chain!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark coppery orange with a somewhat fizzy, one finger light khaki head that dissipates to a persistent thick cap. Aroma of candi malt, rye whiskey, raisins and stone fruit. Flavor is dry caramel malt, raisins, light stone fruit, rye whiskey, grapes and a little grassy hops. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. An interesting barreled ale that does not have much of its chocolate malt notes, more reminiscent of candi malt, although it's most likely some kind of caramel malt. The rye barrel is forward and adds a lot of fruit character to this ale. It actually tastes a lot like a wheat wine, although it apparently uses standard malt. I'm a fan of wheatwines and like this quite a bit. Interesting and flavorful.
