Satan might be boring but this kitchen sink American Stout is not. We could tell you that you will enjoy the flavors of chocolate melding with the malt & the barrel, and them all playing together (blah, blah, etc). That could get boring though. Malts: Linc pils, wheat, Golden Naked oats, Special Roast, pale chocolate, Black Prinz, Caramel Vienna and roasted barley. Hops: Citra(cryo) and Amarillo. Extras: Aged with extra fancy chocolate in Jamaican Rum barrels that previously aged Doc Swinson’s whiskey.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a half finger light khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, rum, light whiskey and barrel wood. Flavor is dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, mild whiskey, woodiness from the barrel and some mild, grassy hops in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An interesting barreled stout at the lower end of ABV that usually supports barreling. The description does not indicate the barreling period, but perhaps it was not that long. The hop are not that faded nor is there any obvious oxidation. It feels light bodied for a barreled stout, but is quite in line with a standard moderate ABV one. Light, but pleasant chocolate and whiskey character. The hops meld with the light woody astringency and toasted malt in a nice way, with perhaps a bit of woody starkness. Despite the name, not really that boring. Kind of cool to have a lighter stout with successful barrel character. This brewery has been doing a good job with somewhat off radar barreled and big stouts and barleywines.
