The smell was a good start. The taste was great and lasting. The feel was smooth. I was very surprised by most of the beers this brewery had to offer. The food was also very good.

tap at the brewery

Pours a hazy banana gold. White head retains pretty well at about a quarter inch. Eventually dissipates to a lacing.

Smells of rich banana esters, wheat malt, and hints of citrus.

Flavor is of banana esters, wheaty malts, and a bit of coriander.

Light body with a sting of carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

A pretty solid example of the style and impressive from an American brewery, this nevertheless is just good but not great or exceptional. If you like hefes and you're at the brewery, you'll be pleased, but this won't be toppling any beers of a top 10 list of this style.

If I came back to this place I would just order a glass of this refreshing weizen

Served on-tap at Weeping Radish Eco Farm & Brewery in Grandy, NC

A: Pours a hazy deep golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of visible carbonation and some apricot + peach highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy head that slowly reduces to a very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of banana + clove along with lighter notes of wheat and lemon.

T: Upfront there is a very light flavor of wheat along with a slightly more pronounced flavor of citrus/lemon. The dominant flavors in the beer are those of the banana + clove but even those are only light to moderately strong. Little to no bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: I had this beer at the previous location and I remember it being much better than what I had today - the color seemed off as the beer was much darker than others in the style and I remember it. Also, the head was not quite what I expected either. Easy to drink but just not a good enough offering in a style where there are so many that are excellent.

This brewery is just off of the Outer Banks of NC (OBX), and I had one bottle bought from the brewery and drunk at the OBX the next day. Excellent! Probably doesn't travel well, since all their brews are made using the German "Reinheitsgebot" which prohibits preservatives & makes it bad to ship more than a certain radius around the brewery.

Found this cool looking bottle hiding on a shelf beside much better known beers at the Total Wine Huntersville, NC location.
Pours a burnt orange color with a thick yellowish white head and a ton of lacing. Smells of lemons, oranges, wheat malts, wheat, and a little sourness and funk. Tastes much the same with more sourness in there. Don't know if it was intended to be that way but I think it makes the beer taste really nice. Mouthfeel is medium with a very crisp carbonation. Overall, I think it is a nice brew from a little known place in the middle of nowhere.

A bottle as an extra on a trade for ORF 10. Dark cloudy burnt orange. Decent head, retention, and lacing. Smell is bitter and slightly soapy. Few if any of the usual hefe yeast esters. A touch of apple and wheat malt. Taste is much the same with a big sourness that makes me wonder if it is off. Dry tart finish. Fizzy carbonation gives a crisp feel. Drinkability is not a strong point here. A real disappointment from a brewery that specializes in German style brewing. I hope this bottle was a bad one cause this beer sure is.

the last one of the night, we had been getting killed with their other offerings and had to do something fast, so off we went. this one saved the night at least for a little bit. nice light yellow pour with a good bit of haze mixed in throughout the glass. an interesting mix of aromas here, light clove and banana are remiscent of some of the best hefes, but also we have a shot of orange peel, lemon grass, and alot of wheat. a bit too much going on for such a clean style. this carries over into the flavor but it starts to work more here for sure. nice touches of banana and fresh herbals work their way in and are quite welcome i have to say. clean and crisp finish is a touch dry, but i think it works here and draws me back in for another sample.

overall this was quite solid. the best i had from them the other night.

Pretty good, but not the same as when Weeping Radish was a full German restaurant in Manteo. The color was darker than I remember, really dark gold...bordering on light copper color. The head was white and a decent size but not the extravaganza of tiny bubbles I was used to. Lacing was decent. The appearance would have been better with a good Weizen glass (like the old place). This was served in a pint glass.

Aroma was hefe..cloves, lemon, banana. Not a top hefe but solid enough. Same with the taste. There are a bunch better but this was still pretty good. Had most of the hefe elements

Mouthfeel was rich enough. Drinkability was pretty good. The old restaurant did better...both with the beer and the presentation/glasswear. I used to look forward to 2 22 oz'ers, a good German dinner and a nice buzz while my wife drove to the next scenic spot. This is a different experience.

Served on-tap at the brewpub in Jarvisburg. A new brewer has made a world of difference.

A: The weizen is darker than normal, more caramel than golden. That darkness isn't all encompassing, allowing the ale to remain translucent. A small head, less than a finger, blankets the top of the glass.

S: The nose has a clove sweetness alongside stronger caramel aromas that come from the darker malt. Not quite spot-on hefe but close.

T: The weizen has a bit of an off-taste, as though the tap line isn't that clean. It only appears sporadically but it is enough to register. The weizen itself offers clove throughout but no wheat tartness to match. Not much else is worth commenting on.

M: The mouthfeel comes close to being a strong weizen but it falls just short. Clove lingers around and the lower carbonation are nice but not enough to make the ale work.

D: After my pint I moved on to the Black Radish and that beer was on fire. I never looked back.

16.9 oz bottle into pint glass.

A: Cloudy, brownish orange color, a little darker than I was thinking it would be. About a finger and a half of head, that settles to a nice ring. Lacing was minimal till I got to the end and notice all the lacing up and down the glass.

S: Strong on the lemon side of things.... with a hint of wheat.. Not much else here.

T: Wow taste like Lemons and some wheat beer.... But more like lemons.... very tart, very little sweetness.

M: Light to Medium bodied, with good carbonation, it fits the style.

D: It was hot today when I was working in the yard, so this beer was refreshing, but so is lemonade and it tastes better. Is it drinkable ?? Yes, is it worth looking into ?? No... I'm I giving up on the Radish ?? No.... I'll look for something else from them... Better luck on the next one..
