Bottle to pint glass.

A - Medium pale yellow. Half inch of off-white head that immediately disappeared.

S - Bready malts with a decent sweetness and a light hop presence in the background.

T - Sweet bready malts with a touch of caramel. Very light hop presence in the background provides a touch of bitterness. Somewhat bland.

M - Light body; slightly creamy. Moderate carbonation.

A: This poured a clear light copper, with moderate off-white head.
S: It smelled like sour lager yeast and sourdough bread, with lemon zest and copper hops.
T: It tasted like lemon zest and copper hops, with sour lager yeast and bready malt. It had a bitter and somewhat dirty aftertaste.
M: It was watery with a little carbonation. Weak body.
D: This was a mediocre example of a style that's already not exciting. The result is a beer that's tolerable but not too enjoyable. The body is the worst part, while the scent and taste weren't offensive, so it wasn't difficult to drink. Recommended for chugging versus sipping.

Appearance: Clear copper with good carbonation; white head dissipates very quickly & leaves hardly any lacing

Smell: Slight sweet caramel malt detectable; possibly some spice also, but overall, not very promising

Taste: Semi sweet caramel malt character; light hop finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to light body; decent carbonation; slightly chewy

Drinkability: Easy to drink, but not a recommended example of the style

Overall, Fest Amber Lager is slightly below average in my opinion. The nose is weak and the taste is bland. Someone else mentioned this in a previous review, but it does seem like a BMC take on the style. You can find much better examples of an Oktoberfest than this.

Pours a transparent copper with golden hues and an off-white, foamy head that quickly disappears leaving nearly no lacing behind.

Aroma is crisp consisting of toasted and caramel malt, but there is also a faint fruity aroma as it warms.

The flavor also has toasted and caramel malt, but also a touch of candied or brown sugar. Light earthy hops also exist, and the finish is back to the German malt.

This beer has a medium to light body with medium carbonation, and is quite crisp and refreshing.

This is an ok beer, perhaps lacking some of the malt aspects of other Oktoberfests; it is easy to drink though.

maybe it was me but i actually really liked this beer. served to me i could tell right away it had a nice dark amber color to it that i was going to love. small cap of white comes up and over the top and hangs around forever before settling back down.

aroma is deep caramel malts at first. sweet with hints of buttery notes as well, but as it warms some light fruit notes and light hops start to come out and offer some nice balance. medium body is wonderfully suited for the style and really helps it to pick up. smooth caramel welcomes you, sweetening you up and leading the charge with lovely tones. but a nice and comsistent hop presence seals it for me an leaves me looking around for another sip right away

overall a very solid beer with a nice little profile and smooth, clean taste. i coul do this again any time.

22oz bomber picked up at the Food Lion in Kitty Hawk, subsequently dispensed into a pint glass.

Pours a cloudy amber with immense white foam, coupled with lots of a lacing. Malty soapy smell. Light malt taste, very clean, with a smooth finish. Some caramel taste, but on the thinner side. Mild hop finish. Nice tasty brew, quite drinkable.

Weeping Radish Fest is a beer that I've never seen before but since it was available here in the OBX on vacation I decided to give it a try. The beer is a bright orange amber with the a fluffy white head, the head retention is fairly good with a little bit of lacing left. The beer has a lager aroma with crisp Noble hops reminescent of Budweiser. The beer is oddly sweet at first before the malt subsides and the leaves you with just a woody/herbal bitterness. This is a beer is slightly above average, not great, but for $3 a bomber it's not a bad choice.

Picked this up along with a bottle of their black beer from Harris Teeter in Corolla NC. Neither beers were fantastic, but I preferred this one. There's a tangy caramel and toasted toffee taste but not much else. The beer finishes with a mild kick of hops to balance things out, but this tastes more like a macrobrewery's take on the style.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Fest appears a very clear polished amber orange color with less than a finger of slightly yellowish stained head. The head receeds quite fast leaving patchy amount of lace on the glass and soon enough appears as just a thin lacing atop the beer. So far so good...now is where the experience starts to take a turn down hill. The aroma is quite sweet smelling almost like a type of caramel candy slightly fruity and a slight sting of alcohol in the back of the nose. The taste has the caramel-like candy fruitiness that the aroma led on right upfront. If you can see through the candy-like sweetness there is a trace amount of grainy flavor and a touch of hops. However, this candy-like taste is very offputting and strange. Slight amount of alcohol warmth in the back of the throat. Light bodied and lightly carbonated.

Pours a deep gold with orange hues. 1-finger head, but no retention and medium lacing.

I'm getting strong diacetyl off the nose. Not off-putting completely, but very buttery. Molasses, spice, and lemongrass round out the smell.

Very thick hit with a sour flavor that follows quickly. Again, not off-putting but not completely pleasant either. Metallic taste in the finish. Malt presence is a little thin for a Marzen.

Feel is about right. A little on the thick side, but that's right where I want it to be for a fest.

Too sour to be a great drink, but passable.

1 pint bottle, poured into a standard pint glass.

A: dark amber color, clear, 1 finger tan head, no lacing.

S: had a different smell to it. estery and slight grain character. don't expect the typical lager smell with this one, it has its own personality.

T: its flavor is malty and sweet. bitterness level is low. you get a coating of malty sweetness in every sip.

MF: medium bodied, medium carbonation.

Drinkability: i couldn't drink a lot of this at one time, but i would enjoy one on occasion.

Purchased a bottle in Fredericksburg, VA. Poured into a shaker pint glass.

A- Pours a deep amber with a thin tan head. The beer was clear.

S- Hints of sulfur (not unusual) but lots of sourness.

T- Very sour, somewhat medicinal and a metallic aftertaste, not very good at all.

M- Somewhat thin, very carbonated.

D- Sorry, this is the second beer I've tried from the Farm Brewery that was sour. Maybe the beer doesn't travel well??? I think it is infected, I had to pour it dwn the drain.

I remeber a few years back going to the old brewpub and restaurant in Manteo and meeting the owner,it was a nice experience,good food and decent beer.This marzen poured into a .5 liter stein a slight hazed bronze with a fluffy two finger white head that held good retention.Lighter aromas but pleasant,caramel malt mixed with a touch of anise and iron,quite a thin near watery mouthfeel was the first turn off to this beer for me.Flavors have a sour side to them that obviously shouldnt be there,there is subtle toasy and caramel sweet noats but they are overpowered by that off sourness.Well the beer seemed more promising at first but it ended badly,is this the same recipe as the old one?

A: A murky amber color with a thin, watery looking head that rapidly dissipated.

S: A strong sulfuric smell coupled with awful sour notes. I think there was a bit of spice buried in there, but I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

T: The hints of spice disappear behind overwhelming sour flavors.

M: Thin, low in carbonation.

D: Just horrid. One of my very few drain pours.

I've heard a lot of stories about Weeping Radish beers not bottling/traveling well. I guess I'm a firm believer now.

500 ml bottle into a beer mug. The "Fest" label covers a green, Weeping Radish "Maibock" label...weird.

A hearty pour produces a seething, rocky, eggshell head that reduces to a thick cap of foam and coats the edge of the glass with thick lacing. The hazy, burnt copper-orange body is nicely carbonated, rounding out an all-around attractive brew. The aroma is faint, but pleasing, with notes of squash, brown sugar, pale malts, and a faint whiff of cinnamon spice.

I wish the flavor met the standards set by the appearance and aroma, because all I'm getting are soggy gourds, a pinch of caramel malt, and a pungent, sour finish. Almost tastes infected, but thankfully it's not god-awful. Body is on the lighter side of medium, overly carbonated, and finishes slightly sour with a vegetative, semi-metallic tinge. I will not be purchasing this again.

Purchased a bomber at the brewery in Jarvisburg, NC on my way down to the Outer Banks for vacation.

A: Gold, nearly copper hue. Bright clarity. Buff head that dissipates quickly.

S: Bread crust and toast character defines this aroma. Some noble hop aroma as well - otherwise this beer has a clean aroma.

T: This beer like some of the others from this brewery has a weird bitterness that carriers through the taste of the beer. Maybe this is the brewery's yeast strain. If it is I don't like it. Maybe it is bad hops. Maybe it is something else. Whatever it is it detrimentally affects this beer's taste. A nice crusty malt flavor gets lost in the bitterness. Overall this is a disappointment.

MF: Medium body - dextrinous. Moderately dry finish.

D: The bitterness in this beer is certainly inappropriate for the style and negatively affects drinkability.

Picked up at the Brew Thru in Kildevil Hill this past Labor Day weekend. I'm always looking to try new Oktoberfest style beers so this was a nice pick up. This pours a reddish golden color with a tiny wisp of head and a malty, slightly spicy nose.

The taste is surprisingly yeasty with a sour aftertaste that almost reminds me of a rye beer, although the label indicates otherwise. The malt is kind of light and the mouthfeel is watery and doesn't really support the flavor. This is an unusual and interesting beer but not really my idea of a great Marzen due to the sourness. Still, this is worth a try if you like German ingenuity.

It's good to see a row of five or six Weeping Radish beers on the shelves at Sam's Quik Stop in Durham. Since the Manteo location closed, I wondered if I'd ever see them around here again. Tonight I picked up a bottle of the Fest for sampling.

It pours a hazy dark orange, with a lean white head that rose no higher than 1/8" even with a vigorous pouring. The aroma is very grainy and sweet. Likewise, the flavor is full of grain characters with an intense sweetness that is a tad overwhelming, to say the least. It very nearly develops into a full-blown sour effect on the palate. No real hop bitterness is detectable during the finish, but there's surely a bit here just to balance the sweetness during the lingering aftertaste.

I have to wonder if this was the intent or just a bad bottle (or batch). It's just too sour to believe this was the intended product. On the other hand, this is an authentic Bavarian brewer who seems to know his stuff with other styles I've tried. Any chance this is close to a true, Bavarian-style Marzen/Oktoberfest?

Poured a nice orangeish color, tint of brown w/ a frothy head. A odd nose, as there were malts and pepper prevalant, and then some funkiness.
Maybe it wasn't tapped correctly, or maybe this bar got a skunked version (I didn't even know this beer would be on tap here in VA, yet alone at this time), but this beer had a sharp, sour taste to it that overpowered the beer. The spices and malts were overflavored by a rather turning off hop bitterness. Because of that I am leery of trying it again, but I hope I just had a bad example of this beer.

Im drinking this beer at cellar temp and pouring into a chalice.
The beer pours a clear bright chestnut color with some light red undertones. A spongey eggshell white head of 3 cm foams up even with a gentle pour. The head fades gradually leaving a cratered surface layer and windowpane lattice.
The aroma is grainy and lagery malt with hints of caramel and spicy hops. Fairly mild nose.
First sip reveals an average body and fine spacious carbonation.
Flavor is grainy malt and hints of caramel which roll to herbal and lingering hop finish. Well balanced brew that drinks very easily.
A nice clean easy drinking lager.

Picked up in NC while on vacation.

Light amber color. Clear. Medium sized, light tan head.

Very mild aroma. What I could get struck me as grassy hops.

Taste was more sweet than bitter, but good balance. Sweet component was mainly wheat bread, bitter came from a grass/herb finish.

Light to medium in body. Medium carbonation. Not particularly dry.

Overall, good, I would drink again. Well balanced, but a touch sweeter than I care for.

Pours an amber color with a sweet smell.

The taste has a malty sweetness that is balanced out with a heaping of hops. Not as spicy as some other Oktoberfest beers, but that's alright, a little subtlety is a nice change of pace for this style.

Orange-red in color. Sweet, pure malt aroma. Flavor follows the aroma with a strong malt flavor, a bit of caramel. Hops are minimal, slightly bitter. A typical amber lager. Weeping Radish beers are typical german-style beers and this is no exception.

A 500 mL bottle purchased at Chip's in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

A: The lager is brilliant copper, clear with little head. What popped up on pour quickly dissapated.

S: The nose is grainy sweet, biscuity with a concentration that has an odd onion-like aroma that could also have some horseradish to it.

T: Despite that 'unique' aroma, the body has a solid marzenbier flavor, thick with malty sweetness and a mere kiss of hop bitterness. The finish has a nice carbonated kick that sends the stronger malt profile off into the sunset.

M: The mouthfeel is malty, thick with a strong sweetness that never loses its biscuity ekement.

D: The lager is low in alcohol with a nice taste. If you seek this one out, look for it fresh as that seems to be when Weeping Radish is at its best.
