Winter ale aged in rye whiskey barrels
To try and soothe Gnorm's temperament, we brewed up the most delectable Imperial Winter Ale and aged it in rye whiskey barrels for 20 months. After the first taste, he became VERY Ill-Tempered, causing chaos around the brewery. We're beginning to understand that is just how he expresses his appreciation for what we do. Here's hoping we find a moment of calm while our gnome friend lets out his temper.

Absolutely wonderful beer. Very potent on the nose, both from the pure ABV of the brew and the extensive whiskey barrel aging. Welcoming and appropriate for a Winter ale (or a breakfast beer in late July; you do your thing, I'll do mine). Notes of dark fruit, prune, peppery spice, oak, brown sugar, molasses, grape, light leather, nuts, and just a hint of something earthy and fruity that I can't quite pin down. Banana bread, perhaps?
Nose translates well to the palate. It's a big, hot, slow-sipping beer, but it's got the richness to smooth everything out. Never aggressive, but not afraid to give you a little love bite. The sweet rye whiskey shows up in spades, riding on top of the super malty base beer like an oil sheen on top of calm waters. Tasting notes match the nose almost note-for-note.
