A- Jet black with a light tan head that hangs out for a while. Good retention, and sticky lacing.
S- charred dark malts, metallic. Nose is not very inviting.
T- Charred malts, metallic tin can quality, bitter coffee roast at end. Not as good as i was expecting at all.
M- light to med body. a little thin for the style, especially with this much alcohol.
O- Pretty disappointed with this beer. Ive had a few beers from both breweries and this doesnt represent the quality ive had in the past. You win some you lose some.

T- Charred malts, metallic tin can quality, bitter coffee roast at end. Not as good as i was expecting at all.
M- light to med body. a little thin for the style, especially with this much alcohol.
O- Pretty disappointed with this beer. Ive had a few beers from both breweries and this doesnt represent the quality ive had in the past. You win some you lose some.

on tap @ the bier stein
pours a rich dark aubergine with garnet highlights. a thin, fluffy white head stays atop for a good while and leaves some ample lacing.
aroma is roasty, malty, hints of dark fruit. Figs, black currant and some raisin. a hint of booziness. touch of cardboard and damp wood. smidgen of cocoa.
taste follows closely with hefty roast, some ample dark malt, heavy rich fruit. blackberry jam, black currants, honey. caramel and blackstrap molasses. I like sweet and fruity baltic porters, but this one is almost over the edge. rich chocolate in the finish, along with roasted cocoa and a hint of coffee.
mouth is medium body with ample and appropriate carbonation. it works. nothing astounding, but solid.
All in all, I was hoping for a bit more. maybe it's the bit of age that has started to mellow stuff out a bit? It just lacked the character I'd hope from an imperial baltic porter. slightly unbalanced toward the sweet and almost-boozey, with just a smidgen of hops to pull it back. Glad I tried it, but as a die-hard baltic porter fan, this one just didn't really do much for me.

A: The pour is a dark brown, almost cola-like, color with a thin off-white head.
S: The nose opens up with a mild roast character along with some roasted malts. Overall, it's sort of watery and mildly boozy. Nothing really that great going on.
T: Flavor has a fair amount of licorice, ash, and roasted malts (almost burnt). There's a moderate sweetness to it, and the molasses does come through. A decently boozy effort, too.
M: The body is light to medium with a moderate carbonation to it.
D: No real desire to try this again. Both the aroma and the flavor really fall short here.
