Sampled at puckerfest the other day. I think it's very sad that more people don't get to try (and review) a beer like this.

The beer pours a somewhat ruddy amber color with red highlights. The beer looks almost still, and so there is no head retention or lacing to speak of. On the nose, the pinot barrel aging is very, very apparent and is quite attractive (but then I'm a big pinot noir fan, so I guess that figures). There is also some light sour funk and vanilla in the nose as well. On the palate, the complexity of this beer is pretty amazing. There is something of a sweet and sour flavor intermix going on, with considerable undertones of wine and vanilla. Hints of sour funk round out the flavor profile in this interesting and impressive beer. The beer is fairly soft and smooth on the palate, with a fairly long, wine infused finish.

Very, very tasty stuff....

Pinot noir barrel aged Belgian amber ale. On draught at the Bier Stein, Inception is a chill hazed mahogany with an off-white thin collar leaving light, foamy lace.

Smell is vinous, sweet, tart, some acid.

Taste is pretty good, not the most complex sour, the wine barrel is there, a little brett. Lacking depth.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin, light bodied.

Drinkability is okay, this is a pretty simple sour, trending flanders red, dumbed down a bit. Which is not bad at all. I could drink it all day. A good example of the range of barrel aged brews, they don't all need to be special occasion nite-caps.
