Black Moon Rye-Sin'

The brewery lists this as a stout. Served in straight glass. Poured a solid black color with about a half-inch of tan head that had good retention and lacing.

Lots of nice roasted notes and a bit of chocolate in the nose, although the Rye doesn't really show up. The Rye does show up on the tongue, alongside all the above mentioned features.

The body was a bit thinner than I like in a stout, but was still nicely solid. Drinkability was very good, the roast lingered but not so much that it was annoying. Overall, a pretty good brew, totally worth trying if you see it.

Growler (technically a 1pint mason jar) from 16Tons bottleshop and taphouse in Eugene.

A: Pitch black so no lights gets through. A little mocha head leaves a thick ring around the glass.

S: lots of delicious roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate smells. A touch of hop makes this a very floral stout with hints of the nugget bittering hop I expect.

T: Strange grassy opening the hops start strong for a stout but it works well. The stout flavor kicks in later with dark roasred malt followed by coffee then a wash of bitternes making the coffee taste very dark. Then some bakers chocolate notes before it closes out with dark malt again that lingers for a long time on the palate.the finish has a bit of the rye spice but it is really downplayed and the coconut they say you can taste isn't there for me.

M: Really thin for a stout on the light side of medium like a pale ale almost. Strange but not offputing by any means.

O:Good as expected but the ryse is, as stated, underplayed. Holds its own as a good American stout though. Were it not a single batch I would drink lots.
