ok....after reading the last couple reviews I felt I needed to chime in.

1st off...the smell of this beer is great!....it is not your usual commercial type lager smell. you'll smell a great aroma of bananas....like the the baby food type smell. Its pretty good. I don't remember repeatedly smelling any lager of any type before this. A comparable would be the banana spice Franzikaner Wisenbier (spell?) minus the spice.

The taste is just like the aroma....slight banana taste with a small hint of citrus.

the pour is like any lager. nothing major

the overall review of the R lager is good. If you are a regular at Brewkeeper you know that they don't mess around with their alcohol by volume. so if you need a great "after you drink your 11% beers" the R Lager is a great finish. Also, if you attend regularly you know that their is some inconsistencies with some beers, but the R Lager is always a good choice.

12 oz. bottle with a plain black and white label of a black lined square. In the middle of the square is a large big bold black "R" with all the beer's specifications and the Mad Brewer symbol in the four corners. This beer has an OG of 1.051, an FG of 1.016, a 4.6% ABV, 5 SRM, and an IBU of 9.7. Below the square is the Brew Keeper's address and to the far right of the label is the Government warning. Date on the bottle? You have to be joking! The Brew Keeper never dates their bottles.

It's a good thing I didn't need a Weizen glass for this beer. I had a Pilsener glass waiting for this beer. This Lager poured a nice looking clear honey amber with a small tint of lemon yellow along the sides. On top of this beer was a creamy cloud white 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch head of foam. This head of foam receded a little bit, but it really never left its position on top of the beer. When I took some beer out of the glass, that's when the head of foam receded and when it did that, it left behind milky white streaks of lace. One of the best appearances I've seen from a Adjunct Lager so far.

After the sweet ass appearance, I really wanted to say that the beer kept on going with the ass kicking with a unique aroma. That unfortunately did not happen. Instead, the aroma was light with corn, malt, and a sprinkle of dried grapefruit at the end. Another one of those non offensive aromas with pretty much nothing going on.

This beer gave me the old one two. At first, the taste was malty with corn and malts and then the beer finishes up bitter with citrus hops and a hint of grapefruit. There was nothing else hiding in the beer. It was simply malty with a slight bitter finish.

This was a light bodied crispy Lager with loads and loads of carbonation and a faint malty aftertaste of malt, corn, and a subtle touch of citrus hops.

It had a kick ass appearance, but everything else was standard for the style. That's too bad! In the end, this one of those beers that you hand a friend when they plan on drinking nothing but BMC.

Live review. Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into my Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale pint glass. . Purchased for $7.99 at Reider's Market in Painesville about 2 months ago. No observed "best by" or "freshness date" found by me on label or the bottle. 4.6% ABV

A Kind of basic but true to the style light yellow translucent body under a 2 inch short lived off white head. 2.5

S Not much of a smell really. Some distant grains, maybe some distant hops. 2.0

T Really kind of basic lager, not one of my favorite styles. There are the requisite barley tastes, very little hops but otherwise there is not much taste to me. It is true to the style but that is about it. 2.5

M Light, the only aspects that keep this from being water thin are the barley and trace hops tastes. Low ABV contributes to it being very light. 2.0

D Well, good but this is a boring beer that I would not likely purchase again. 3.5

Notes: It is probably perfect for a really hot day after some yardwork but there are more affordable lagers that I would consider before this one for $7.99.
