This Belgian-style Quad sampled the day before it went on tap (thank you Jim & Matt!) was an opaque brown color with a thin mocha-foam head. The retention was decent but the lacing on the thin side. The aroma was outstanding, sweet floral notes, Trappist yeast, vanilla, oak and citrus. The flavors were also complex yet accessable. It started a little woody with the oak, then went semi-sweet with notes of toffee, brown sugar and chocolate. The floral elements were pronounced and the vanilla and nuts subtle but present. Light citrus and some berry notes too. The mouthfeel was slightly slick, the body medium and the carbonation low/medium. For 10% it showed great finesse and was truly deceptive. Clean and quaffable, yet layered and apropos to the style. A must-try!
