Off the tap at the brewpub this Double IPA was a hazy, copper color. The one-finger head was khaki-colored, the retention as a cap good and the lacing pretty good in streaks. The aroma was surprisingly light, alcohol, musty caramel malt and faint hops. The flavors were better defined. Starting with sweet caramel malt, I then tasted vanilla, lots of citrus hops especially orange rind, semi-sweet grapefruit, alcohol and a piney, bitter finish. The mouthfeel was semi-smooth but oily, the body medium/full and the carbonation light. Though the hop profile was complex but this beer lacked the finesse and depth of an A-class version. I enjoyed it but was not impressed.
