Off their nitro tap this beer was a very dark, nearly opaque, cola-brown color with one finger of creamy, beige head. The retention was very good as a thin layer and the lacing was in thick curtains. The semi-sweet aroma was of roasted malt and chocolate malt with very little hops presence. The flavors were similar, dominated by the sweet malts, especially the chocolate which gave it some mocha like character though it was slightly tangy. As it warmed I also detected hints of wood and a touch of alcohol. The carbonation was predictably low, the mouthfeel silky and the body medium (I really was expecting more). The acidity was also a little high for the style. Good, but it could use just a little fine-tuning.
