From 08/27/10 notes. Had on tap at The Shed in Vermont.
a - Pours a black color with on head or carbonation.
s - Smells of citrus hops, grapefruit, pine, and roasted malts.
t - Tastes of grapefruit, roasted malts, coffee, and citrus hops.
m - Medium body and low carbonation.
d - An interesting black IPA that seemed like a hybrid of an IPA and a stout. Probably wouldn't seek out again.

Yet another VT brewery takes a shot at the developing 'Black IPA' style. Off their tap this beer was indeed an opaque black color with two fingers of khaki colored head. The retention was ok as a collar and the lacing scattered. The aroma was of roasted malt, floral hops and some Cascade hops. The flavors were nicely balanced but not particularly complex. I tasted the sweetness of dark caramel, chocolate malt and a strongly bitter, herbal hops finish. Sweet at first and bitter towards the end, balanced in this regard. Still, it did not display the finesse and complexity of similar offerings *ahem* ALCHEMIST. *cough* The mouthfeel was good but just a little watery, the body medium and the carbonation correct for the style.
