Pours an opaque brown with hints of ruby. Zero head and zero lacing. Smells very sweet. Sweet dark malt and milky chocolate aromas.
Taste is less sweet, better balanced than the aroma. The sweetness is still there but balanced nicely with some roasty malt flavors. Bitter chocolate and undertones of coffee. Low level bitterness prevails in the finish, sweetness in the aftertaste. Nicely balanced, I feared it might be too sweet for me. Nice porter, worthy for a pint or two if you make it to Orono.
