Pours into my ceramic mug, so appearance is hard to judge. Decent frothy head, a dark colored beer, probably dark brown not black.
Smell is predominately malty but has lots of other spice going on, potentially some nutmeg and cinnamon along with other typical winter warmer spices.
Taste is thick and creamy, more so than their stouts and porters, controlled by the malt and spice, very much a spice explosion going on, if you don't like spicy holiday beers, this one won't be for you. Also tends to be one of their stronger offerings (don't know the ABV though) since one or two pints gets me a little buzzed as opposed to any of their other beers.
Easily the best beer the Bear Brewpub offers, it's a shame it's only around during the cold winter/spring months, and sometimes that's not even a guarantee. I will miss this beer since moving away from the Orono area, it was always a good choice to help with the long winter months.
