Brewed for the Mount Hood Meadows 50th Anniversary. For 50 years, Mt. Hood Meadows has been getting folks down the slopes. In their honor, we offer this crisp and exhilarating IPA. Bright citrus carves through a forest of fresh bread and fruited pine, making any session on our home mountain a bluebird powder day. 6.8% ABV, 72 BU

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Dark golden with a mild haze, small, lasting one finger creamy head. Bready malts dominate the aroma, taste keeps the maltiness and adds a slight bitterness. Some citrus too. Light sweetness.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a nice, two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, citrus and grassy hops; a little spicy and old fashioned. Flavor is biscuit malt, citrus and dry grassy hops, orange, lemon, melon and an odd camphor like note that continues into the finish, which has a lingering grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a nice light to moderate creaminess and mouth feel. This kind of reminds me of first generation craft IPAs with a solid biscuit body and off-beat hop bill. There are some unusual flavors that I cannot parse out and mostly interesting enough to require further tasting. The camphor note was a little jarring for my palate. Robust and probably ideal for its purpose as an apres-ski ale; big enough to be warming and interesting enough to settle into.

500 ml bottle from Trader Joe in Salem OR. $4.99 Pours the traditional burnt orange colour..slight haaze maybe and a nicely proportioned white frothy head, Very fruity/citus hop profile..lemons, orange peel and peach skin. Little spruce tip. Taste is a little less fruity and has more of a spruce/pine aspect.. Some honeyish malts. The mouth feel on this one is very unusual..very soft ..lowish carbonation..almost like its bottle conditioned. I like this beer.

A Zone pours a brilliantly polished bright gold. It's crystal clear and just as beautiful as can be, with that foamy white snow cap that plasters the glass.

Mild aromas of honeydew melon, freshly milled light grains, and a drop of floral honey are inviting, but suggest a low intensity experience.

The flavor is surprisingly grain forward. Tons of fresh light malts are met with crisp green apples, honey, and an low key melon, clashing with pine to finish it off.

It feels light and crisp, but sharp. It tingles the back of the jaw with an acidity like experience. It finishes slightly earthy, but has a good bitter end. The carbonation seems a bit low too.

I would say that A Zone is a decent IPA. Kind of an old school take on new hops in a way. It's refreshing, and though it is good, I can't see myself enjoying more than one. Cheers.
